US$99 TextBlade from WayTools is a Bluetooth Keyboard for Bloggers covering Press Events

“TextBlade is an entirely new class of device that delivers professional-grade, familiar touch typing to any platform – from iPhones to iPads to Android, without compromising the size or feel of the tablet,”

WayTools CEO Mark Knighton said in a Press Release on the Tuesday January 13th 2015 for the TextBlade from WayTools

If you’re a Smartphone owner and you question people a lot in preparation for a blog article or even attend Press Events, from time-to-time you are forced to wonder: should you get a mini-Laptop or a Tablet with a Keyboard or a Bluetooth keyboard to go with your smartphone to do more effective typing on your smartphone?

It’s that consideration that made me gravitate towards the TextBlade from WayTools, a mini QWERTY keyboard (Kooser, 2015) that’s made of two (2) strips of eight blocks of keys. The Chocolate Bar shaped Switchblade action Bluetooth keyboard keys are coated with a grey plastic and have indentations along the middle to help your fingers get a feel for the keys in this rather cramped keyboard.

The WayTools CEO Mark Knighton apparently decided after CES (Computer Electronics Show) 2015 was the best time to launch his product (Epstein, 2015); Electronics still on everyone’s mind but without the risk of his product being drowned out by other competitors.

And what a product he has chosen to launch!

Once pulled out, the two (2) pieces of the TextBlade from WayTools magnetically snaps together to form one mini Bluetooth keyboard that’s no bigger than your Smartphone.

The US$99 TextBlade from WayTools, which is compatible with Apple iPhones and Google Android Smartphones, weights in at 1.5 ounces and is an angled keyboard, perfect for me.

Watching it in action makes me realize that Magnets being used in gadgets like the Mars by Crazybaby Levitating Bluetooth Speaker (Deer, January 2015) and even some toys like the US$180 Egg Attack Iron Man 3 Mark II Magnetic Floating Version (Deer, 2015) is really a trend that’s spreading through the design world! So expect more articles on this theme of Magnets in Electronic Gadgets!

US$99 TextBlade from WayTools – Chocolate Bar sized Ergonomic Bluetooth Keyboard

I already have an ergonomic keyboard as well, so this would be gentle on my rather large digits. Best of all, it sounds and clicks as you type and isn’t one of those gel type roll-up keyboards that have no tactile force feedback interaction; these are real keys.

Those keys are adequately spaced, even more than on a regular Laptop or Mechanical keyboard like the US$99 SteelSeries Apex M800 Mechanical keyboard (Deer, 2015) and the dimples running along the spine make it easy to type on these keys. Yet, despite its diminutive size, it manages to pack in all the keys on a traditional keyboard.

This is thanks to TextBlade from WayTools patented “MultiTouch Key Technology”, which is just a fancier way of representing multiple symbols on fewer keys.

Spacebar comes with Rechargeable Battery – Great Hangout for my Thumbs

What I really love about the TextBlade from WayTools is the very large spacebar, which hides a Rechargeable battery. Not sure how long that touch sensitive spacebar will last, but it’s great for thumb typists like me who like a really large spacebar at times when I really get into the typing of Speeches and presentations on a smartphone.

Covering a Press Event using a smartphone is murder.

Aside from the possibility of a battery failure that can ruin your story unless you’re one of those types that walks around with a Portable Battery Charger (Deer, 2014), smartphone’s really made for touch typing. Being a Desktop or Laptop person, making the transition to a smartphone to write during a Press Conference is difficult.

I mainly do most of my typing at home or in a place where I can feel comfortable while typing. For me nothing short of a keyboard is needed to really get comfortable enough to type. The US$99 TextBlade from WayTools might just be the thing that the doctor ordered for my thumbs!

The US$99 TextBlade from WayTools is a bit much for a portable Bluetooth keyboard in terms of price, but its portability might be the reason. More reason to snap one up right now!

But when you consider the cost of a Tablet and the hassle of lugging around multiple devices to cover one Event, it makes sense to make do with the smartphone that you have.

Really, as I’ve experienced this, as it can mean the difference between being first to Press or getting your story sidelined by a competitor. In that light, the US$99 TextBlade from WayTools can give you a serious edge!
