GE (General Electric) has introduced their 10W GE Bright Stik (Crist, 2015) in packs of three (3) costing US$10. Folks, that’s US$3.33 per bulb, way cheaper than the US$5 Philips 60W Replacement LED Bulb (Deer, 2015, June 4) that I wrote about back in June 2015.
Philips clearly isn’t the only game in town with an incandescent and fluorescent bulb replacement this summer of 2015. 4th of July may be gone, but Christmas is a coming and it’s not too late to get some LED Replacement bulbs from Lowe’s to save money!
So aside from the lower price, what else makes the three-pack of GE Bright Stik a true bargain at US$10?
10W GE Bright Stik – Simply NOT the best but the Price is right
Actually the price is the ONLY thing this bulb has going for it. The 10W GE Bright Stik puts out about at 760 Lumens of brightness, which is comparatively less bright than other 60 W Replacement Bulbs.
That translates to 79 lumens per watt!
It’s usually cylindrical design that tapers slightly to the tip of the bulb doesn’t cast a shadow. The light it casts, aside from being slightly dimmer, is still even spread and indistinguishable from a traditional incandescent bulb.
That’s not the only metric in which it doesn’t shine as brightly as its slightly pricier competitors such as the US$ 5Ikea Ledare LED (frosted), the US$8 Cree 4Flow LED or the US$9 Philips SlimStyle LED.
It has a color temperature of 2,830 K /2,850 K, far lower than the other bulbs in its class.
In addition to that, it’s non-dimmable; turn down the voltage to change the mood and you’ll get the usual flickering effects reminiscent of Christmas lights that shorten the lifespan of the LED.
Still, to be fair, this is also true of all of the low-priced that the 10W GE Bright Stik is being compared to in the table below.
At least the 10W GE Bright Stik outscores the competition in the color rendering Index with a fairly good score of 81. With a scale that varies from 0 to 100, 81 is not too bad but not as good as more expensive 60 W bulb replacements where 85 is the average score.
But were it a contest, at US$10 for a pack of three (3) 10W GE Bright Stik, GE shines bright like a Diamond, Rihanna Style!
