IFA Trade Show in Berlin, Germany which was held from Friday September 4th 2015 to Wednesday September 9th 2015 had a lot of new gadgets from the practical to the clearly nouveau experimental for all the world to see.
But one product struck me as the confirmation of a genuine trend in the making was the US$129 Asus VivoStick PC10 (Ackerman, 2015) from Asus. Intel first started that trend with the Intel Compute Stick at CES 2015, which is now on sale for US$150 since (Deer, 2015, April 6) Friday April 24th 2015 on NewEgg and elsewhere online.
Good to note here this isn’t Asus first PC Stick, as they’d also made a PC stick called the Google Chromebit (Deer, 2015, April 14) that runs Google Chrome OS earlier in March 2015.
The Asus VivoStick PC10 is powered by a Atom Chip, formerly codenamed Cherry Trail and is supported by 2GB of RAM and a 32GB Internal Memory, making it capable of running runs Windows 10 like the Intel Compute stick. Hardware-wise it also comes with USB 3.0 port and one USB 2.0 port.
Like all PC sticks before it, it plugs into any HDMI port at the back of a HDTV or HDMI compatible monitor, and has a headphone jack. A single micro-USB port is used to power the device, which surprisingly has little dotted vents, indicating that albeit the Atom Processor is a much more efficient design, it does get hot with constant usage.
It connects via Wi-Fi to provide you with Internet access as it also has built-in Bluetooth to allow you connect to the internet and also to connect any Bluetooth Mouse and keyboard. A great example of a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse is the Apple Mouse and keyboard (Deer, 2015, August 16) that’s probably gonna be seen next year in 2016.
No release date has been given go this product like the Google Chromebit made by Asus, but expect the US$129 Asus VivoStick PC10 to land under you tree and totally disrupt the Computer industry come Christmas 2015
