How the JPS Foundation upgraded the York Town Primary School Playground

“This is clean and green. Let’s be passionate about protecting our land Jamaica … . We have a sacred honour to take care of our children and our environment……Children in Jamaica deserve what everybody else in the world has. We don’t play small anymore”

President and CEO of JPS, Kelly Tomblin, commenting on the installation of a new Playground at York Town Primary School

JPS Co, it seems, has not forgotten Clanton, specifically York Town.

The JPS Foundation has constructed a brand new playground at the York Town Primary School as reported in their press release titled JPS Donates New Playground to York Town Basic School Children.

Officially opened on Thursday December 10th 2015, the new playground (The Jamaica Gleaner, 2015, December 21) helps the school meet the ECC (Early Childhood Commission) standards for safe play areas for the fifty (50) children at the school.

JPS Co had selected the 40-y-o School back in 2013 as one of their three (3) three basic schools to be a part of the JPS Foundation Model School Programme. Aside from the playground, JPS Co has also assisted the York Town community in the following ways:

  • Introduction of electricity to the school and the community
  • Supplying the school with kitchen equipment, teachers’ desks and chairs
  • Installing fire extinguishers and smoke detectors

The JPS Foundation had even assisted a teacher, Carmeta Richards, to pursue a Bachelor of Education degree (Morris, 2013, November 17) at the Catholic College in Mandeville in November of 2013.

So aside from rolling our Prepaid Digicel Meters with their PAYG (Pay as you Go) System (Deer, 2015, December 20),  setting the stage for you to pay your EBill (Deer, 2015, June 9) using Mobile Money via Paymaster (Deer, 2015, December 19) in 2016, JPS Co also empowers small communities like York Town.

Their JPS Foundation supports Early Childhood Education as this playground gift to the York Town Primary School shows.
