That’s right folks; this is a Japan-thing only, so Americans and Jamaican alike, wipe your tears from now! But fret not; it you had a Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console, you’ll be able to purchase the re-released versions of the original Game Boy Pokémon titles.
This is a part of Nintendo’s celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the first Pokémon release. The Nintendo 2DS portable gaming consoles will come pre-installed with a version of Pokémon that matches the colour of the handheld:
- Pokémon Red
- Pokémon Blue
- Pokémon Green
- Pokémon Yellow/Pikachu
So what new here that’s worth drooling over?
Nintendo’s Pokémon-themed 2DS portable gaming consoles – Japan gets some love
For one, the Japanese are finally giving themselves the 2DS love, the US of A had actually gotten the 2DS on October 2013 but it was never released in Japan. This is odd, as traditionally, anything Nintendo makes usually get released in Japan first.
So this should make up for that oversight albeit not by much, as they’d gotten the 3DS. Why Japanese would want to have a 2DS console that plays the entire library of 3DS games and most Nintendo DS games in 2D, is beyond me.
Also, with the original Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow titles coming to Nintendo 3DS users in the US of A, why would you wish to buy this? Especially as the red or blue 2DS consoles have been around since 2014 along with the Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire games.
Pokemon fans rejoice – Precursor to the launch of Pokemon Go
Perhaps this one if for the hardcore collectors of anything Nintendo!
Well, aside from the owe prices of US$83 for Japanese users, there are a few differences. the menu theme is different and is actually based on the Kanto region’s map. You can finally unlock Pokémon Mew (Frank, 2015, December 25), and is usable in both the following 2DS and 3DS titles:
- Omega Ruby
- Alpha Sapphire
- Pokémon X and Y
The Pokémon stickers are also all new and are unique to these re-launched 2DS consoles. But it also hints at a launch date for the Pokemon Go (Deer, 2015, September 14) Augmented reality Game, which may be launched around that time.
