Vybz Kartel Official VK Line launches robotics camp for High Schools in Portmore

“We have engaged Marvin Hall, who represents Halls of Learning, to host a one-day robotics class to be held in Portmore. We will be approaching all the high schools in Portmore to have their students attend”

Even in Jail, Vybz Kartel is still doing good in his neighbourhood.

Vybz Kartel, through his clothing brand Official VK Line that was launched back in July 2016 (Loop News, 2016, July 28), is now sponsoring a Robotics Camp (Loop News, 2016, September 6) for all High School in the Portmore, St. Catherine Area.

Robotics, also called Mechatronics (Deer, 2015, September 22), involves using coding, electronics and Mechanical Engineering to build robots that can do useful, often repetitive work.

The camp, which is very similar to the Supreme Ventures funded Junior Creators Robotics Summer Camp (Deer, 2016, August 5) and Telecom Provider Digicel’s partnership with BKP (Bioprist Knowledge Park) for their Robotics Camp (The Jamaica Gleaner, 2016, August 23) for people in Lucea, will see Portmore students learning the following:

  • Basic robot design
  • Construction
  • Programming

This is all thanks to a partnership with Halls of Learning’s Marvin Hall, who will be doing one-day robotics classes (Campbell, 2016, September 2) to be held at all the schools in Portmore to quote Brand Manager of Official VK Line, Shona-Lee S. Thompson, quote: “We have engaged Marvin Hall, who represents Halls of Learning, to host a one-day robotics class to be held in Portmore. We will be approaching all the high schools in Portmore to have their students attend”.

So why sponsor a Robotics Camp in Portmore?

Vybz Kartel Official VK Line and Robotics – Robotics is the future of Jamaican Labour

This is a true demonstration of his great sense of social awareness that is possible through Music.

The Official VK Line is an expansion of the Vybz Kartel Brand (Francis, 2016, July 25) that already includes a bestseller book Voice of the Jamaican Ghetto and the release of his album “King of the Dancehall” which was No. 1 on both the Billboard and ITunes reggae charts.

His VK line includes:

  • Lingerie
  • Caps
  • T-shirts
  • Shorts
  • Footwear

This marks the launch of the Gaza Literacy Programme, which had seen the handing over of a computer to the principal and students of Greater Portmore High School.

His Official VK Line (Campbell, 2016, June 14), which is being managed by Brand Manager of Official VK Line, Kartel’s clothing brand, Shona-Lee S. Thompson, will fulfil his promise to donate computers to every High School in Portmore.

This may possibly involve the developement of Robotics and coding (Deer, 2015, November 27), possibly using Raspberry Pi computers in High Schools. Robotics is set to be big in Farming as well (Deer, 2016, July 3), making this intervention very timely.

Hopefully too, they’ll also learn a language along the way, such as Spanish (Deer, 2016, July 19), as that’ll put them at a great advantage when they graduate from high school; coding, robotics as well as speaking a foreign Language.
