How Jamaican Teachers can make US$100000 per year teaching online

Math and Science Teacher may be leaving Jamaica creating a shortage (Deer, 2015, December 4) possibly related to low salaries and poor teaching conditions (Deer, 2016, February 3).

Salaries of JA$100000 per month will not stop many teachers leaving (Deer, 2015, December 17) albeit JA$250,000 per month might do the trick according to Educate Jamaica (Deer, 2016, January 27), as the poor teaching conditions still prevail.

Eventually we even start seeing a shortage of English Teachers as well as salaries of US$5 million (Deer, 2016, March 13) to teach in Primary school in England and Saudi Arabia is just too tempting to ignore.

But what if I told you that you could make just as much as a teacher teaching online?

What you need to make money online – Paypal, Payoneer and Teaching content

To teach online successfully, make sure you have the following in your checklist:

  • Paypal Account (Deer, 2015, September 9) as your main Payment Gateway
  • Payoneer Account (Deer, 2015, September 10), an Bank of America Prepaid Debit Card
  • Scotia VISA Debit (Deer, 2012, February 13) or CIBC First Caribbean VISA Debit Card
  • Broadband Internet at home from FLOW or Digicel Play (Deer, 2016, June 28)
  • Notebook or Journal to keep Track of all your Online Accounts and Passwords
  • Portfolio of Published Written Notes on a blog, Website online i.e. Blogs, e-books or teaching videos on YouTube
  • A VPN (Virtual Private Network) Connection
  • A Friend or relative living abroad

You’ll need the Paypal Account (Deer, 2015, September 9) to be able to receive payments from Credit Card purchases (Deer, 2013, September 16). The Payoneer Account (Deer, 2015, September 10) will enable you to transfer the money from Paypal and thus spend locally.

The Scotia VISA Debit Card (Deer, 2012, February 13) or CIBC First Caribbean VISA Debit Card is just to verify your Paypal Account (Deer, 2017, April 14), necessary to receive funds from abroad. Broadband Internet at home from FLOW or Digicel Play (Deer, 2016, June 28) is a must.

A friend or relative abroad with a US address is also great.  But you can easily use your ShipMe (Deer, 2013, September 15) address as well as a free VPN on smartphones and now Desktop computers (Deer, 2016, September 20) thanks to the Opera Browser.

So what are the steps to prepare to teach online? And what are the best websites for Teachers to make money?

Preparing to Teach online – Promoting your Weblink is key

First, you need to follow a few steps (Littlefield, 2017, April 22) in order to choose what you plan to make money teaching:

  1. Choose a Topic that can be monetized
  2. Find a teaching platform that works for you
  3. Create your content
  4. Promote your Weblink

The last one is very important, as your webpage on any website or video channel such as YouTube will not immediately get traffic; you’ll have to push traffic via paying for flyers and website traffic (Deer, 2017, March 26) in order to effectively promote your weblink.

Making money Teaching online – Teaching English and stuff to Visual and Auditory learners online

You can teach for as little as US$10 per hour as a tutor (Teach.com, 2017, February 7) and eventually end up making as much as US$1200 per month or US$100000 per year (Phil, 2015).

Best of all, you don’t need to be an expert in the field you teach; you can teach what you know, be it a skill, such as carpentry, photography, graphic design, computer programming or a hobby such as drawing, playing piano, baking or even running.

Teaching content with lots of instructional Videos and step-by-step images is the best strategy, as most persons who will subscribe to a course online are usually visual and auditory learners and they prefer to have content that they can replay repeatedly. Even better is live streaming your content in the form of a webinar, with an option for those who missed your classes to download a video of your lessons later.

It’s really about convenience, as you don’t have to use traditional teaching methods; just make sure to be confident in your videos or live streams. Combined with pushing traffic via paying for flyers and website traffic (Deer, 2017, March 26), you can make a lot of money once word gets out that you have great courses that are fun to follow and easy to understand.

So here’s the list of website from which you can make money teaching English (Satrap, 2017, March 15):

Now here as some websites that allow you to make money teaching pretty much everything (Hanna, 2014, August 7) else:

  • BrainMass – Expert Academic Help with University, College and High School Courses
  • Clarity – Website for Experts to get calls and make money
  • Createpool – Website for Experts to give advice and make money
  • Expertory – allows you to Sell Videos Online, Webinars, Online Group Classes and Live 1-To-1 Video Consultations.
  • Odijoo – Personalized online space from which to create, publish, share and monetize online courses
  • Popexpert – A website for personal coaches to teach their craft
  • Udemy – The Fiverr of online teaching. Croat video courses and make money
  • YouTube – The hub of all things video. Search carefully for what you want

These websites are creating opportunities for graduates ready to teach in these fields to earn a little extra on the side. With so many ways for a Jamaican Teacher to make extra income, leaving a teaching Job in Jamaica, despite the conditions, seems less likely.

Sharing is caring so share this with as many of your friends as you can.
