How Paid Advertising, SEM and SMM can generate Sales to Jamaican e-commerce Websites

Online advertising is very efficient, when compared to advertising in the Newspaper ads and Email Marketing or even free Online Ads (Deer, 2017, August 26).

Advertising can be classified in either of two (2) categories:

  • Free
  • Paid

Advertising online can be broken down into three (3) possible platforms.

You may probably know them by their more colloquial names:

  • Websites
  • Search Engines
  • Social Media

In the Advertising and Marketing trade, they are more properly referred to as different types of advertising, with Free and Paid platforms of each existing in cyberspace:

  • Website Advertising
  • SEM (Search Engine Marketing)
  • SMM (Social Media Marketing)

Albeit pricey, the Paid version of these Types of Advertising has the following advantages:

  • You can easily determine if it’s generating an ROI (Return on Investment)
  • You can see where your money is going
  • You will get turnover as the traffic is organic

Best of all, most online advertising are based on Performance Pay i.e. you the advertiser only pay if someone ACTUALLY clicks on your ads and visit your website.

Traditional Advertising – Newspaper, Television and Email Ads are trackable…..kinda

Newspaper Ads cannot do this, as they cannot track phone calls to your ads or tell if you have had visits to your websites. Ditto Television ads, even those on display boards and Email. So in essence you’re paying for you ad to be hosted, whether or not anyone calls you number, emails you or views and clicks on your website.

Still, if you are fond of the good ol’ newspaper and email you can use shortened bit.ly URL’s in your newspaper ads and even your flyers (Deer, 2017, March 26) to make them trackable. Also tracking phone calls and emails from the newspapers ads is possible, albeit you’ll have to install special software on your smartphone or use a bulk email client (Deer, 2016, August 23) respectively.

As usual, when doing business online, to make payment you need a Prepaid Debit or a Credit Card (Deer, 2013, September 16) or a Paypal Account (Deer, 2015, September 9), all of which are easy to set up. Bitcoin is becoming increasing popular (Deer, 2018, March 30) so getting you own bitcoin wallet should be in your best interest.

Paid Advertisers and SEM – Instagram and Pinterest are Social Media

Now for the list of online advertisers:

Good to note that Instagram and Pinterest, strictly speaking, don’t do ads, as getting traffic to an Instagram or Pinterest account you have set up for you business (Deer, 2018, May 20) can bring the same result as advertising, being as it is a visual medium.

Still, if you wish to advertise on Instagram, you can run those ads through Facebook Ad manager, as they own both Instagram and Whatsapp………with the latter having no ads to date.

Final, it’s good to note the following; paid advertising should coincide with your organic marketing efforts, which would mainly involve SEO (Search Engine Optimization). Paid traffic, albeit it is satisfying and helps to boost numbers, does not help your website or blog and damages your reputation over time.

You should really be doing both Paid Advertising aka SEM and SEO as the two combined bring awesome results for your business.   Sharing is caring so share this blog post with your friends!!!!

How to make Glow-in-the-Dark Schweppes French Toast

I still French Toast.  No matter how badly it turns out, so long as it has that golden brown appearance and that sweet taste of butter.

But Salt and the hydrogenated oils or trans-fat (Deer, 2016, December 12) make these foods dangerous for persons who are slowly going over the hill. So is there a healthier option to the traditional French Toast Recipe.

Yes there is…..and it glows in the Dark too!!!

Ingredients for Glow-in-the-Dark Schweppes Soda French Toast

The ingredients that you’ll need are:

  • 1 Slice whole wheat bread
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 Bottle of Schweppes Soda (any flavour)
  • I pack Lasco Powdered Milk (any flavour)
  • 1tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup assorted fruit (Mangoes, Apples, Oranges, etc)

Preparation is fairly simple:

  1. Combine Lasco Powdered Milk and Schweppes Soda to make 1/4 cup of milk
  2. Whisk eggs, milk, and powdered seasoning in a bowl until well combined.
  3. Place a nonstick pan over low/medium heat for 2 minutes.
  4. Submerge the slice of bread into the egg mixture, flip over and repeat.
  5. Transfer bread from egg mixture to frying pan.
  6. Cook for 4 minutes on the first side, and flip over and repeat cooking time.
  7. Puree 1/2 cup of assorted fruits using a blender with a 1/4 cup of Schweppes Soda
  8. Remove from finished French toast from pan
  9. Serve the puree fresh fruit along with the French Toast

What makes this recipe so exciting is that it combines several diverse ingredients to make a product that can literally-glow-in-the-dark.

This is due to the presence of quinone in the Schweppes Soda. If you have a UV Lamp handy, not only will the French toast glow but so will the puree fruits.

It’s a healthy breakfast for kids and they’ll love making it as it’s a healthy use of Schweppes Soda. Best of all, you can join in the fun, as it’s great for you too!!!

Why the Denham Town Police need to allow residents to keep entertainment events

“Do something so we can send we pickney back to school, if a even fi the summer…Over pan Hunts Bay side yuh have more killing dan weh a gwan pan Denham Town side, yet Hunts Bay can a give permit, suh why we on this side can’t get permit? We can’t get permit for nothing at all”

Comment from a resident of Unity Lane, which runs off Maxfield Avenue, with regards to getting permits for their events

People, in case you didn’t realize it, July and August are officially the Fish Fry, Cake sales, parties and round robins season in Jamaica among people in the Inner City.

Many Jamaican families throw these events to raise funds to send their kids back to school. But in the Kingston Western Police Division, the Jamaican Police are being draconian as usual, refusing to allow these necessary sessions to take place.

The following places in West Kingston are being prevented from having sessions and Fish Fry for the past two (2) years:

  • Bentley Lane
  • Unity Lane
  • Moore Street
  • Georges Street
  • Barnes Lane

Residents complain of being victimized by the Denham Town Police Station, who are shutting down their parties and round robins while communities with higher levels of crime are allowed to keep their events way into the night.

Meanwhile, areas with higher levels of violence are allowed to not only get permits but can have their events longer into the night, as a resident of Unity Lane, which runs off Maxfield Avenue lamented: “Maxfield Avenue nuh have the amount a killing like weh Rema and Rose Town dem have and dem a keep dance til all daylight”.

So how is this affecting the residents of Maxfield Avenue and the adjoining community of Denham Town?

Denham Town Resident and Police – Lack of permits preventing good vibes from flowing

This lack of permits is affecting their ability to generate income, as many are unemployed.

They use these events to not only survive but to also send their children back to school, as pointed out by Janet, a bar operator on Maxfield Avenue, quote: “We want permits like other places. If is even for the summer and we take it from there. When dance a keep there is no violence”.

Being restricted to keeping round robins inside the bars means that their patronage will be small, as bars may not be able to accommodate so many people. Also, these events want to attract a more family crowd; bars are not the kind of place where you want children to be mingling with adults.

Lanes are a perfect venue, being open to walking traffic; bars are not  as pointed out by the Unity Lane resident, quote: “If we string up something right at the lane front, dem (police) come and ask who gi we permit and lock it off and dem a tek whoever name weh a keep it and say prosecute. The only way we can do a likkle thing is in the bar, and how much people can hold in a the bar?”

So here’s hoping that the Denham Town Police Station, who are in charge of these areas, can be sympathetic to the residents of the Kingston Western Police Division an allow them to keep their Fish Fry, Cake sales, parties and round robins in time for Back-to-school.
