If you’re a college student shopping online, chances are you’re looking not only for a Laptop but a multi-function Printer.
If so, then you probably might want to consider the Canon Pixma MG2520 all-in-one Inkjet Printer being sold for US$17.99 (Broida, 2015) at the online web store Tanga. No, this is not a refurbished Printer; this is actually a brand new all-in-one Printer that scans, copies and prints.
The catch? It doesn’t come with the free ink cartridges; that’s why the prices are so super low for a multi-function Printer.
The US$17.99 Canon Pixma MG2520 uses PG-245 or PG-245 XL cartridges for black and CL-246/CL-246 XL cartridges for color. These ink cartridges are refillable, so you can either learn to do it yourself or you can make a partnership for life with your local ink-refilling company.
Its output is a measly 8 pages per minute and the output tray can only hold about sixty (60) sheets of paper. Also this isn’t a Wireless Printer; this is strictly a USB Cable deal.
But if you’re a college student looking for a budget Printer that works as advertised and also doubles as a copier and a scanner, then as a Jamaican, now is the time to reach for your Scotia VISA Debit (Deer, 2012, February 13) or your CIBC VISA Debit Card (Deer, 2013, December 23) and purchase the US$17.99 Canon Pixma MG2520 (Deer, 2014, August 24) and use a courier and ship it down (Deer, 2013, September 15) to Jamaica to your college dorm room.
Best of all, you can make back your investment by offering your services to scan and copy documents for your fellow classmates on campus.
Like the portable USA$130 Polaroid Zip Mobile Printer (Deer, 2015, January 28) but want something a little more professional and also cheaper. As hard as that is to believe, it does exist.
Introducing the US$89 Canon Pixma MG5620, the budget-friendly no-frills all-in-one Wireless Inkjet Printer (Yu, 2015) that’s sure to be a hit with amateur photographers.
US$89 Canon Pixma MG5620 – Minimalistic design for the smartphone and Digital Camera Photographer
The Canon Pixma MG5620 comes in matte black finish and has a low-profile chassis. It sports dimensions of 37.08 cm (14.6 in) long by 45.72 cm (18 in) wide and is 14.99 cm tall (5.9 in) that fits snug into your home office or mini photo studio as it has no auto-document feeder, making this printer suitable for confined spaces.
The US$89 Canon Pixma MG5620 is a speedy little printer, capable of printing some three (3) pages per minute.
It’s also a no frills printer mainly for printing text and light photo output, so it doesn’t come with a built in fax machine or a memory card reader for quick printing from your Digital camera. However, this is a Wireless smartphone made for the selfie-obsessed smartphone and Tablet toting Millennial, meaning the use of physical media to print is totally unnecessary.
The front panel of the Canon Pixma MG5620 has a 2.5-inch LCD screen to display information about your prints, albeit it won’t allow you to do any photo editing.
This front section of the Printer can be removed to reveal five (5) ink cartridges below in the Cartridge bay.
You get these ink cartridges when you purchase the US$89 Canon Pixma MG5620, with the black ink cartridge being a pigment black ink to produce extra dense text prints.
The Canon Pixma MG5620 has multiple personalities but is not Business-friendly
However this is a multi-function printer, so it does come with a built in flatbed scanner capable of scanning 8.5 by 11.7 documents at a resolution of 2,400 x 1,200 dots per inch (dpi). The Flatbed scanner is perched atop the printer accessible via a small indented lip on the lid.
Like most Canon consumer inkjet printers, the 2,400×1,200 dots per inch (dpi) flatbed scanner sits on top of the printer and lifts up by a small indented lip on the lid.
You get the standard 8.5 by 11.7 inches of space to work with here, and the company generously provides two (2) articulated hinges that allow you to fold the flatbed scanner lid over thicker hard-cover books.
The scanner also has a copier functionality, but lacks the ADF (auto-document feeder) that you’d come to expect on more business-friendly models such as the Canon MX472 inkjet. So no mass copying of hundred of documents!
This is really a multi-function Inkjet for those persons looking to just quickly copy single items on the go as it only has a single-feed tray.
Canon Pixma MG5620 is Apple iOS and Google Android Friendly with Canon Easy-PhotoPrint app
The Canon Pixma MG5620 is super-easy to setup via the USB Cable and then configure it to pick up the Wi-Fi signal in your home office. The Canon Pixma MG5620 also comes with a Google Android and Apple iOS compatible Canon Easy-PhotoPrint app that allows you to print from your Apple and Android devices.
The main advantage of having the Canon Easy-PhotoPrint app is that it allows you to connect with any of Canon’s Pixma or Selphy Wireless printers and print single photos with the press of a button.
You also get two (2) other software titles with your purchase of the Canon Pixma MG5620:
My Image Garden to organize and edit your photos
Full HD Movie Print, Canon’s proprietary software used to extract HD (High Definition) still images from movies on your Canon cameras.
Alternately, it’s also compatible with cloud-based services like Apple AirPrint and Google Cloud Print allowing you to connect your Apple iOS devices and Google Android smartphone or Chromebooks and print your images on the fly.
Canon Pixma MG5620: Professional Photo printer for Amateur Photographers
You may find all this a bit irritating, but considering the US$89 price for the Canon Pixma MG5620, you realize that this is really more of a basic printer and not a full business-friendly small office or home office ready product.
Also, the cost of the consumables is a bit steep, as with any inkjet printer. You’ll eventually have to become friends with a local company that does ink refills to save on the most of consumables, which can cost a lot more than the printer itself.
The built in Printer software has multiple options to help you get the most out of your ink cartridges and conserve on the wasting of ink. The result is darker high contrast black colors and bright colours which results in sharper text and outstanding photo-quality images.
The US$89 Canon Pixma MG5620 is a speedy little printer, capable of printing some three (3) pages per minute.
However, please note the this is a photo printer; if you want a business printer for printing strictly black and white documents only, then you best be getting the US$150 Brother HL-L2360DW (Deer, 2015, January 4) printer.
Otherwise, this is an excellent US$89 Canon Pixma MG5620, the budget-friendly no-frills all-in-one Wireless Inkjet Printer for professional documents like slide shows, pamphlets, spreadsheets and flyers and is must-buy for Jamaicans looking to set up a quick photo studio to do passport sized photos or other types of photography.
Maybe you’ll like the US$119 Marshall Major II on-ear headphones, which are not only well designed (Carnoy, 2015) but quite affordable too. They’re well designed for their price with earcups that are soft on the ears and more flexible hinges.
They also conform to the head better and come with a detachable coiled cord with an L-shaped 3.5 mm RCA Jack. These headphones are compatible with all make smartphones, be they Google Android or Apple iPhone and come with an inline one-button remote and microphone so you’ll never miss a call.
But it’s the sound that’ll surprise you.
US$119 Marshall Major II on-ear headphones have improved bass and are more balance on both Left and right channels. They may be a little heavy on the bass but play any type of music with a reasonably good level of clarity for a sub-US$300 pair of headphones.
“The special edition Cadbury Dairy Milk Spectacular 7 bar is our first chocolate treat to contain seven flavours. We know our fans love the variety and taste in the range, so we’ve created the ultimate celebration of the magnificently delicious Cadbury Dairy Milk flavours. With just 50 being created in total keep your eyes open on how to win to avoid disappointment”
Marketing Director for Cadbury, Matthew Williams, commenting on the Cadbury Dairy Milk Spectacular 7 promotion
Cadbury seems to on a roll when it comes to delighting us with its Chocolate treats.
Just yesterday Thursday April 23rd 2015, Cadbury launched a promotion involving a rare limited edition Chocolate bar that has seven (7) flavours. This Chocolate creation (Jefferson, 2015) is dubbed the Cadbury Dairy Milk Spectacular 7.
These seven flavours are:
Almond butter bar
Caramel
Fruit & Nut
Milk Chocolate
Oreo
Turkish Delight
Whole nuts
This feast for the eyes and other senses landed on Cadbury’s Twitter page as shown below.
The main problem though, it that Cadbury (Mullen, 2015) only made fifty (50) of these Chocolate bars. So watch Cadbury Chocolate’s Twitter page in order (McSpadden, 2015) to win one of seven (7) Chocolate delights by retweeting posts about their promotion.
And yes, this if for British nationals only, so if you’re in Britain, then you’re one lucky devil indeed. So join Twitter and follow the Cadbury Twitter Feed(Stacy, 2015) as you might be one of the Lucky fifty (50) to win this limited edition Chocolate Bar.
“A perfect addition to the Cadbury Dairy Milk portfolio, the Cadbury Dairy Milk Oat Crunch is a brand new product which lets someone have a taste of their favourite chocolate during the mid-morning break. The new advert is all about showing the joyful side of the mid-morning break before settling back into the daily routine.”
Marketing activation director at parent company Mondelēz International, Matthew Williams, commenting on the rebranding launch of Cadbury Dairy Milk Oat Crunch
Dear readers, are you in love with Cadbury Chocolate Creme Egg over the Summer? Did you like my recipe (Deer, 2015, April 4) for making your own Glow-in-the-Dark Cadbury Chocolate Creme Egg?
The advert features two (2) cafeteria ladies preparing office lunch for office workers only to break out spontaneously playing 2 Unlimited “Get Ready for this”, a hit on the UK charts back in 1991, using spoons.
It’s worth watching, really!
Created by Fallon London and launched on the evening of Thursday April 16th 2015, the thirty (30) second spot popped up during the break of ITV’s The Chase. £4.5 million pounds is some serious publicity that has Marketing agencies Golin, Fallon, PHD and Elvis supporting this new rebranding with outdoor, digital, experiential and PR advertising.
Look out for this product in Supermarkets in Jamaica eventually. I still didn’t get enough of their Cadbury Chocolate Creme Egg during the Easter break and this might be the perfect healthy substitute.
